Shutterbug's Essential Guide To Better Photography Skills

By Tyra Georgia Sanchez

Photography is a great form of art and it also can help reduce the stress you experience in your life. Photography offers you the opportunity to capture those important, once-in-a-lifetime moments. It's true that a picture speaks in volumes.

If you are taking landscape photos, a tripod can help you take better shots. Investing in a good tripod helps to avoid capturing your own movement when taking photographs. The steady base is especially useful when capturing landscapes.

Protect your camera equipment while traveling. Packing it in a carry on may be your best option. Bring all lenses that you think you will possibly use, plus a few extra batteries and cleaning tools. Try to pack as lightly as possible, without forgetting any of the essentials, so that your bag remains easy to manage during travel.

When working with a digital camera, it is often tempting to switch to the lowest setting, so you can get additional pictures in memory before you download them; just make sure you know the print quality will suffer when doing this. You should only apply the lowest settings if you are confident that the images will only be shown on a computer display.

Red eye can turn a great photo into a ruined one. Flash is the main cause of red eye, so ask your subjects to look away from the lens. A red eye reduction feature is available on some cameras.

Imagine your view finder is cut into thirds divided horizontally and vertically. Instead of placing your subject in the dead center of the frame, place it where the lines cross. You'll easily create a more dramatic picture.

Try experimenting with the shutter speed on your camera. People usually think that using a faster shutter speed is the best way to capture something going fast, but using something more slow, like 1/30 can be beneficial. Look at the cyclist riding past! The bike will be clear and the background will be streaked, this will show movement.

Photographs of people don't have to be limited to facial shots. Many body parts can make terrific subjects for your pictures.

If you see something you would like to take a picture of, simply take note of it and take a photo of it the next time you visit that area. You can keep up with interesting sites by always carrying a small notepad on your person to notate a spot you would like to revisit.

Everyone enjoys looking at photos, even if they didn't take the picture themselves. It is a great opportunity to create memories and share them. Photography can provide a fun and exciting creative outlet. As previously mentioned, sharing your view of the world through photographs is, among other things, a stress reliever and an opportunity to stop and take stock for a moment.
