How would you create the perfect living room?

By Lee Little

A living room needs to be well decorated and it needs to cater to different needs and different people. The living room is where we spend most of our waking hours when we are at home. We may spend longer in the bedroom, but we are generally asleep then and as long as the bed is comfortable, most of us are pretty happy.

Living rooms may require both blinds and curtains so that you can block light, provide privacy and insulate the room as well. The room needs to be warm and most people prefer central heating, but a fireplace makes a great centrepiece and additional heat source. We generally want the living room to be welcoming, so warm colours are generally used for the walls together with either carpet or wood floorboards, perhaps with a soft rug.

Do you want a couple of settees or do you also want an armchair or a recliner? People spend long hours choosing the right settee, knowing a poor decision will live with them for a long time. It is worth putting in the time when choosing your seating to ensure you get it right.

People may try and create more space in their living room by having their TV installed on the wall using a TV bracket, removing the need for a large TV stand or cabinet. The more space you have, the less cluttered your room will feel. Think carefully before filling your living space with coffee tables and the like - do you really need them or are you just getting carried away?

Choosing the right dcor is about making the room inviting. The perfect living room is both inviting and comfortable and will suit you no matter what you're doing. Choosing the right seating is about making the room comfortable.
